We’ll be honest readers. The first time we heard of Ji Nilsson was when she rocked up into popworld back in March with ‘Love You Anyway’, armed with Scandipop fave Marlene as a collaboree. It was pretty and we liked it a lot. And now we like it even more, as it put Miss Nilsson on our radar. Which means that we were curious to check out her new single and video, released today. And it’s amazing.
‘Heartbreakfree’ is what it’s called, yet don’t believe the gleeful lure of the title – this song is heartbreakfull. Beautifully so though. From the gorgeous melody of the opening line, right through to the very end. It’s a typically Scandinavian take on heartbreak induced sadness – set to the merry tone of a damn good tune. In this case, Ji trills of wanting to remain free of heartache, despite knowing that’s probably not possible given the current scenario she finds herself in. And the delicacy of her voice as she tries to reassure herself – it’s a little bit devastating.
We’re glad she’s put herself through this ordeal however, because it means we get to have ‘Heartbreakfree’ in all of its gory glory. Selfish pigs we are.
The video had its premiere over on SVT’s PSL site this morning. Watch;
